Aromatic lavender sugar

Give your dishes a special touch with this aromatic lavender sugar. Perfect to make yourself at home or as a nice souvenir.

Lavender, the fragrant plant from the Mediterranean, is not only beautiful to look at but also incredibly versatile. With this recipe you can easily make lavender sugar yourself and enrich your kitchen with the wonderful aroma of lavender.

Is eating lavender healthy?

Yes, edible lavender can be used in many ways in the kitchen. However, larger amounts can lead to stomach and intestinal problems, so children, pregnant women and breastfeeding women should only consume lavender in small quantities.

How does lavender affect the body?

Lavender has numerous health benefits. It has a calming, nerve-strengthening, antispasmodic, sleep-inducing, anti-anxiety, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant and pain-relieving effect (also in rheumatic diseases). Lavender increases well-being and quality of life.

What can I do with lavender?

Lavender is very versatile. It is often dried and used in teas, herbal mixtures, scented sachets or cosmetic products. It is also used in cleaning products and washing powder to spread a pleasant scent. I also have a wonderful recipe for a Mediterranean lavender salt, which I can highly recommend to you. We also like to use lavender as a table decoration, be it fresh or dried. Lavender is and remains simply wonderful and always gives our table setting a little holiday feeling.

Can you eat lavender pure?

Yes, both the leaves and flowers of lavender are edible. However, due to its distinctive taste, lavender should be dosed sparingly. Dried flowers can be used instead of fresh flowers.

INGREDIENTS

  • 5 tbsp lavender flowers
  • 250 g granulated sugar

PREPARATION

  1. Dry lavender flowers: Spread fresh lavender flowers on a piece of kitchen roll so that they do not touch each other. Let the flowers dry for 2 days, turning them once after a day. Alternatively, the flowers can be dried more quickly in the oven at 50°C.
  2. Prepare the screw-top jar: Rinse a screw-top jar (250 ml) with hot water and dry well.
  3. Layer sugar and lavender: Fill the dried lavender flowers together with the sugar into the screw-top jar in layers.
  4. Let it steep: Seal the jar and let it steep for at least 5 days so that the sugar can absorb the aroma of the lavender.

With this lavender sugar you can give your baked goods, desserts and teas a particularly aromatic note. Try it and enjoy the smell and taste of the Mediterranean in your kitchen!

TIP

You can also use fresh lavender flowers. Please note, however, that the residual moisture can cause the sugar to clump together.
