Boiled potatoes

Boiled potatoes are a simple yet delicious side dish that goes well with many dishes. Whether as a side dish with meat, fish or vegetables, potatoes are versatile and can be prepared in a variety of ways.

The recipe for boiled potatoes is very simple: the potatoes are peeled, washed and boiled in sufficiently salted water until they are soft. Then they are drained. You can refine them with a little butter or oil. Optionally, herbs or spicescan also be added.

In terms of nutritional value, potatoes are an excellent source of carbohydrates and fibre. They also contain vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, potassium and magnesium. Boiled potatoes are also low in calories and therefore make a good healthy side dish to a balanced diet.

Depending on the region and linguistic usage, boiled potatoes are also known by other names. In Austria and Bavaria, for example, they are often called “Gschwellti”, while in Switzerland they are called “Salzkartoffeln”. In Germany they are known as “Pellkartoffeln”. But no matter what you call them, boiled potatoes remain a popular and tasty side dish for many dishes.

INGREDIENTS

  • 800 g potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon salt

 

PREPARATION

  1. For the boiled potato, wash and peel the potatoes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into quarters or halves, depending on their size, or cut them into equal pieces.
  3. Now put the potato pieces into a pot and fill with cold water until the potatoes are covered. Add the salt and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and cook for 15-20 minutes until soft.
  4. Drain the potatoes and leave to steam briefly.
  5. Refine the potatoes with butter or herbs.
