Classic Wurstsalat a la Mamá

Today, I want to share a recipe that means pure childhood memories for me: my mom’s classic Wurstsalat. This recipe is not just a culinary highlight but also a piece of family history. Back in the 80s, my mother used to make this salad, even using it as a filling for the famous ham rolls that were served at every visit. Although we no longer have the ham rolls on our table today, the Wurstsalat remains a beloved classic that we enjoy again and again—especially after Easter when we have leftover hard-boiled eggs.

Wurstsalat is perfect for any occasion: as a snack in between meals, for a cozy TV night, as an afternoon snack, or whenever the craving strikes. This delicious mix of ham, hard-boiled eggs, pickles, and mayonnaise, refined with fresh chives, still delights us and brings back nostalgic memories of happy family times.

INGREDIENTS

  • 200 g ham, sliced
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1/2 jar of pickles
  • 6 tbsp mayonnaise
  • Fresh chives
  • Salt, pepper

PREPARATION

  1. Cut the ham into fine pieces.
  2. Finely dice the hard-boiled eggs and pickles.
  3. Put everything in a bowl and add the mayonnaise.
  4. Finely chop the fresh chives and fold them in.
  5. Season with salt and pepper and mix well.
TIP

The Wurstsalat can also be wonderfully prepared with various types of sausage. You can choose any sausage or ham according to your taste.
